Vietnamese American man dedicated for Da Nang's development

Despite having 32 years of experience working as an electronics engineer in the USA-based Silicon Valley, Peter Huynh, a Vietnamese American man, has decided to return to his fatherland and work in the Da Nang Dedicated Information Technology Park (DITP) with the aim of developing the park as an expanded 'Silicon Valley' in Viet Nam.

Personal imprints

Peter Huynh was born in 1970 in Ho Chi Minh Ciy in a family with both parents being university lecturers. In 1989, his family immigrated to the USA and settled in California. He studied at the San José State University- California's oldest public university and also the first institution established in 23 California State University systems.

After graduation, Peter Huynh was recruited directly to work for big tech giants namely International Business Machines (IBM), Lina Network, and more.

He worked for the longest time in the Sparton Group in the Silicon Valley. Sparton is also the USA's leading manufacturer and supplier of industrial computer components, industrial-grade small form factor PCs and the Aerospace and Defense leader in the design, development, testing, production, and fielding of ruggedized displays for military and industrial use in ground, air, and sea applications.

Here, Peter Huynh becomes the first Asian-American in Sparton Group to hold the position of Executive Technical Director, managing more than 400 technology engineers from the USA, Japan, India, Singapore, South Korea, and other countries around the world.

Of special note, Peter Huynh played a vital role in making electronic circuit boards for fifth-generation stealth combat aircraft, F-35.

A group of Da Nang's leaders, led by municipal People's Committee Chairman Huynh Duc Tho, had the opportunity to meet with Peter Huynh at the seminar ‘Da Nang Business Roundtable’ in Silicon Valley, USA, in order to introduce Da Nang’s investment environment to the US investors.

Within the framework of the seminar, Da Nang leaders witnessed the signing ceremonies for 3 memoranda of understanding (MoUs) between Da Nang and the US businesses.

The first MoU was inked by the Authority of Da Nang’s Hi-Tech Park and Industrial Parks (IPs) and Ai20X on developing the city’s Hi-tech Park into the best place to conduct business incubation and technological innovation, and serve as the gateway for deploying technology transfer, taking advantage of high quality human resources, developing prestigious experts and promoting investment into the park.

The second MoU was signed by the USA-based Meritronics Amt, Inc and the Da Nang IT Park Development JSC on establishing the Trung Nam Meritronics Technology JSC which will provide electronic manufacturing services at this park.

The remaining one was signed by Ai20X and the Da Nang IT Park Development JSC on the provision of services to turn the DITP into ‘Viet Nam’s Silicon Valley’.

Desire to bring 'Made-in-Viet Nam' technology to the world

After one year of orrganising the seminar in Silicon Valley, a surface-mount technology (SMT) assembly and manufacturing plant, the first of its kind in Central Viet Nam, was put into official operation today, 17 October, in the DITP, Hoa Lien Commune, Hoa Vang District.

Developed by the Da Nang IT Park Development JSC under the Trung Nam Group, the 1,000m2, 7 million US$ SMT plant specialises in manufacturing electronic components and printed circuit boards for export. And the director of this plant is none other than Peter Huynh.

General Director of Trung Nam Group Nguyen Tam Tien remarked that his group has employed hundreds of international senior experts and engineers from European countries and Peter Huynh is amongst them.

At the DITP, the Trung Nam Group targets to earn 1.5 billion USD / year in revenue and recruit 25,000 employees during the 2021-2025 period.

He added DITP whose design is similar to the Silicon Valley model in the USA is the first dedicated IT zone in Viet Nam to be home to firms involving in software and hardware industries.

Peter Huynh remarked that Trung Nam Group is a major investor in Viet Nam in the energy field. He expressed his strong determination to join efforts with Trung Nam Group to realize its dream of bringing 'Made-in-Viet Nam' technology to the world.
